# Joao Cancelo wanted by Chelsea

According to [Yahoo!](https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/exclusive-chelsea-plan-summer-spending-spree-with-romelu-lukaku-and-joao-cancelo-on-the-radar-143512509.html) Chelsea are plotting an aggressive summer recruitment drive and have identified Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo as one of their top targets of the transfer window.

Chelsea’s upturn in form this season has been the switch from a back four to a back three, moving Cesar Azpilicueta inside and playing Victor Moses as a right wing-back.

Moses has performed admirably this season in his new position, and if not for the incredible form of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard, would probably be in with a shout of being the club’s Player of the Season.

However, the Nigerian does see himself as a winger and Chelsea, having sold Branislav Ivanovic last month, are lacking in options at the right wing-back position.

Enter, Joao Cancelo.

The 22-year-old Portuguese international defender has impressed for Valencia since his £12.75m move from Benfica back in July 2015, making his international debut back in September where he scored in each of his first three games for his country.

Chelsea did make an approach to buy Cancelo in January but Valencia, who are battling relegation, rejected the offer as they cannot afford to sell any of their key names before the end of the season.

Barcelona have also identified Cancelo as a possible summer signing to solve their right-back issues, a problem position ever since Dani Alves made the switch to Juventus. It’s understood that Valencia would be willing to do business at €30m when the season comes to a close.
