# Real Madrid will allow James Rodriguez to join Chelsea

Chelsea currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table but talk of potential summer additions hasn’t stopped.

The Blues have not dealt with Real Madrid since August 2010 (if you ignore the bizarre Michael Essien loan of 2012) when they sold centre-back Ricardo Carvalho to the La Liga giants for €8m but the two could be doing a lot of business this summer.

Real Madrid’s interest in Chelsea pair Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard is real, so much so that it’s reported that the agent of the Belgian goalkeeper is in constant contact with Madrid officials regarding a move in the near future.

Chelsea don’t want to lose two of their key players, but they are interested in signing Madrid’s Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez in the summer. Spanish source [Diario Gol](https://www.diariogol.com/es/notices/2017/02/el-real-madrid-ofrece-a-james-rodriguez-en-tres-operaciones-71083.php) are claiming that Madrid are offering Rodriguez in exchange for either Courtois or Hazard.

Madrid want to offload Rodriguez in the summer but want an equally big star in return, and have touted him to both Juventus and Bayern Munich in exchange for striker Paulo Dybala and left-back David Alaba respectively.

Courtois’ contract is up in 2018, meaning the Blues don’t have much leverage with him. If tying him down to a new contract proves difficult, then they could be forced to sell him this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer next season.

As for Hazard, Madrid want to make him the next Galactico and have been chasing him for some time, but he’s finally found a settled role under Conte and is hitting his best form. Chelsea would likely command a world record fee to let him go.
