# Chelsea eye summer move for Leonardo Bonucci

Chelsea were linked with a move for Leonardo Bonucci in the summer after the Italian’s superb displays at Euro 2016 but the Blues were unable to persuade Juventus to part ways with their star centre-back.

Antonio Conte, who signed Bonucci in 2009 whilst he was the manager of Bari, also worked with him at Juventus when he took charge in Turin from 2011 as well as during his time as the Italian national team manager, has a great working relationship with the 29-year-old.

Despite signing a new long-term deal to stay with Juventus until 2021, Bonucci’s future with the club has come into question of late following a heated moment after a match against Palermo recently.

The centre-back got involved in an argument after the game as a result of Massimiliano Allegri’s choice of substitutions in the game and he stormed off down the tunnel at full-time.

Allegri announced he would punish Bonucci for his actions and did so by dropping him for Juve’s Champions League clash with Porto last week.

Juventus plan on handing more playing time to impressive 22-year-old Daniele Rugani and promote Mattia Caldara into the first-team squad when he returns from his loan spell with Atalanta in the summer, meaning they could be willing to part ways with Bonucci.

Valued at £42m, the veteran defender could link up with Conte again with the [Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-news-leonardo-bonucci-juventus-42million-palermo-a7603881.html) stating that Chelsea are interested in signing the 67-time Italy international.
