# Chelsea eyeing Southampton right-back Cedric

Chelsea are looking to bolster their squad this summer ahead of what promises to be a busy season with Champions League football next term, and have identified Southampton defender Cedric Soares as a target.

According to a report today from the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-target-cedric-soares-as-antonio-conte-adds-third-southampton-defender-to-summer-wishlist-a3506506.html), the Blues are contemplating a summer move for the impressive defender as they look to bolster their options at wing-back.

Cedric has been in superb form for Saints this season and has really stepped up to the mark after a transitional first year in the [Premier League](https://readpl.com/), nailing down his place in Claude Puel’s plans.

However, his excellent displays clearly haven’t gone unnoticed and the league leaders are now sniffing around.

The Portugal international’s teammates Virgil van Dijk and Ryan Bertrand are also being lined up by Antonio Conte this summer but Saints will look to hang on to their star players.

Cedric is also being targeted by La Liga giants [Barcelona](https://readlaliga.com/).
