Sky Sources have claimed that the Blues have agreed a fee with Newcastle for the permanent transfer of Atsu following an impressive loan spell in the north east.

Chelsea signed Atsu from Porto in a £2.5m deal in August 2013 and he was immediately loaned to Vitesse for the 2013/14 in order to secure a work permit.

In the two seasons that followed, Atsu endured up and down spells on loan with Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga before being sent to St James’ Park to aid in Newcastle’s promotion bid.

The Ghanaian attacker scored five goals and added three assists in 32 appearances as Newcastle won the Championship and secured promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It was reported that the deal had a purchasing option which stood at £6.2m so it will be interesting to see how close to that figure the agreed fee between the two clubs is.
