# Chelsea making checks to sign Kostas Manolas

Nathan Ake is edging closer to completing his £20m move to Bournemouth this summer who opens up a spot in the first-team squad for a new centre-back as Antonio Conte wishes to have great depth at the position.

Kostas Manolas was reportedly a target for Chelsea but he seemed set for a £26m move to Zenit St. Petersburg, a move which has stalled over a wage dispute, according to the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/06/28/chelsea-may-move-hijack-kostas-manolas-26m-zenit-st-petersburg/).

It light of this, Chelsea have made checks on the Roma defender to gather more details on the situation ahead of a potential move.

Chelsea seem to have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Leonardo Bonucci while a deal for Virgil van Dijk is proving tough to strike, which has elevated Manolas near the top of the Blues’ wishlist.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol reports that Manolas failing to show up for his Zenit medical is down to more than just a wage dispute, as other clubs have now made offers to sign him, potentially including Chelsea.

The 26-year-old Greek centre-back will be leaving Roma this summer and it seems as if Chelsea are determined to pip other suitors to his signature.
