# Chelsea make bid for Rudiger

Chelsea have made an opening offer to sign AS Roma central defender Antonio Rudiger, according to reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

> Twitter: Official bid from Chelsea to AS Roma for Antonio Rüdiger: €33M + €5M add ons. Talks ongoing. ![??](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.2.1/svg/1f1e9-1f1ea.svg)![?](https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/2.2.1/svg/1f535.svg) #transfers #CFC (@FabrizioRomano)

It was earlier reported that the Blues had opened talks with the Serie A side over a potential move for the German international, and it appears as though their interest is genuine.

Chelsea have been linked with several centre-backs already this summer, with Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk being the two most frequently named options.

However, Rudiger is clearly a strong target and Antonio Conte will be hoping to lure the powerful defender away from Roma’s grasp.

The 24-year-old has recovered incredibly well from a long-term knee injury he sustained last June, and has demonstrated his ability to perform at the top level.

Chelsea will hope to tie up a deal quickly for Rudiger.
