# Chelsea receive boost in Courtois contract talks

Chelsea’s hopes of persuading Thibaut Courtois to sign a new contract at the club have received a huge boost after Spanish giants Real Madrid cooled their interest in the Belgian goalkeeper, according to a report on the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/thibaut-courtois-contract-boost-for-chelsea-as-real-madrid-cool-interest-a3577016.html).

Courtois initially rejected Chelsea’s contract offer in May and it was looking increasingly likely that the shot-stopper would be leaving the Premier League champions in this summer’s transfer window.

However, UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid have discarded their interest in Courtois so now the London club are confident that he will put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the club.

The 25-year-old wants to double his current salary to £200,000-a-week, but Chelsea have not been ready to offer him that much yet. But, with the fear of losing such a talented keeper, they may now be ready to offer him what he wants.

Courtois was one of the key figures in Chelsea’s League title success last season by winning the Premier League’s golden glove award after keeping 16 clean sheets.

Real Madrid are looking to replace current keeper Keylor Navas and have been linked with Courtois on many occasions.

“I meet regularly with those in charge at Real Madrid and Thibaut’s case has come up,” said the keeper’s agent.

The keeper has two years remaining on his current contract and Chelsea are hoping to extend that further.
