# Inter Milan keen on signing Nemanja Matic

Serie A club Inter Milan are eyeing up a move for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after his move to Premier League rivals Manchester United broke down, according to a report on the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/827170/Inter-Milan-Nemanja-Matic-Chelsea-Transfer-News-Gossip-Rumours).

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has been a key part of the Chelsea squad in recent seasons and has won many plaudits for his performances at Stamford Bridge.

However, with the arrival of Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko imminent, his future at the London club is in doubt with Chelsea believed to be willing to let Matic leave if Bakayoko comes in.

The Italian giants have reportedly opened negotiations with Chelsea as they hope to strike a deal for the Serbia International.

Matic has a contract with the Blues until the summer of 2019, but Italian manager Antonio Conte is keen to offload the ex-Benfica man as he looks to build his squad for the upcoming season.

Matic was a key transfer target for Man United boss Jose Mourinho, who is a huge admirer of the player. It seemed that his next destination would be Old Trafford for a reunion with his ex-boss Mourinho but negotiations between both clubs stalled which has put Inter Milan on full alert.

The San Siro club are aiming for a complete overhaul of their squad this summer, starting by acquiring Matic.

The midfielder was a key part in Chelsea’s Premier League success last season and also helped his side to the FA Cup final with a wonder-strike against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final at Wembley.

Inter Milan are yet to make a bid for Matic but are expected to do so soon.
