# Arsenal offer Chamberlain to Chelsea in swap deal for Matic

Arsenal have made a shock offer to Premier League rivals Chelsea as they look to swap Englishman Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to a report on the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/828483/Arsenal-Chelsea-Nemanja-Matic-Oxlade-Chamberlain-Di-Marzio-Premier-League-Transfer-News).

Chamberlain only has one year remaining on his contract at the Gunners and has been linked with a move away from the Emirates all summer.

Likewise, Matic seems to be on his way out from Stamford Bridge as the Premier League champions nearly secure the signature of Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The news of this swap deal was first broken by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio as Arsenal’s talks with Chamberlain over a new contract broke down. The 23-year-old has been highly frustrated with a lack of game time at Arsenal and wants to play regular football to give himself the best chance of being in the England squad for the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Chelsea have been reported to be interested in Chamberlain and it looks like they could secure a deal by sending Matic the other way.

The Italian is looking for a wing-back who can easily slot into his 3-4-3 formation and Chamberlain is his primary target.

Wenger does not want to lose the England international on a free transfer next summer and has offered him in a straight swap for Matic.

The Serbian has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Serie A giants Juventus but Arsenal hope that the swap offer will be enough to convince Chelsea to go ahead with the transfer.
