# Chelsea to make Oxlade-Chamberlain bid within 48 hours

Chelsea will reportedly make a formal bid to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal within the next 48 hours, but face competition from Manchester City.

[The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/831831/Chelsea-News-Manchester-City-Transfer-News-Arsenal-News-Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain) claim that Chelsea will step up their efforts to sign the England international, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has informed Arsene Wenger of his desire to leave the club because he wants assurances about first-team football.

Chelsea were initially linked with the player over the weekend and Antonio Conte would have seen the player up close as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners against Arsenal in their recent pre-season friendly.

The Gunners have offered the former Southampton man a new contract at the club worth around £100,000-a-week, something Chelsea would have no problem matching, if not beating.

Whether the player would have a better chance of first-team football at Chelsea than he does at Arsenal, however, is something for the player to decide.
