# Chelsea target N’Zonzi hands in transfer request

Chelsea have already brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to the club this summer in a £40m deal from Monaco, but Antonio Conte still wants to strengthen his midfield.

With Nemanja Matic linked with a move to away as both Manchester United and Juventus consider bids, Chelsea could do with depth in midfield and a player they are supposedly targeting is Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi.

The Frenchman has developed into a quality defensive midfielder since arriving from Blackburn several years ago and would qualify as a ‘home-grown’ talent if a Premier League side decides to buy him.

It’s understood that N’Zonzi has notified his employers that [he wishes to leave the club](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/juve-and-chelsea-alerted-as-e40m-star-hands-in-transfer-request-21421) this summer with both Chelsea and Juventus reportedly weighing up moves for him.

Juventus have tried to haggle with Sevilla about lowering their asking price, but the La Liga outfit won’t do business for less than his €40m release clause written into his current contract.

Having allowed Vicente Iborra to join Leicester earlier this summer, Sevilla do not want to lose another key midfield starter, but it appears N’Zonzi is keen to leave and Chelsea could offer him a route back to the Premier League.
