# Jann-Fiete Arp plays down Chelsea transfer

Chelsea have always been looking to add talented young players to their ranks to develop into potential first-team stars and Jann-Fiete Arp is [one player the Blues have been tracking](https://readchelsea.com/2017/06/07/chelsea-miss-hamburg-starlet-jann-fiete-arp/).

The Blues have scouted the teenage striker on a number of occasions over the last several months and are keen on signing him this summer, but it appears as if a deal won’t be reached.

Arp himself [has spoken out about his future](https://www.football.london/premier-league/live-chelsea-arsenal-spurs-west-13423964), claiming it doesn’t make sense to join Chelsea at such a young age:

> It just doesn’t make any sense to join Chelsea as a 17-year-old.

> You have achieved near to nothing, basically have no experience in professional football. The risk is too high. It would have been nonsense to move abroad and neglect everything else.

> Football is a day-to-day business and it can be over any day. But nobody can take away the Abitur \[German A-levels\] from you. On top of that, money must not play a role at my age.

The talented 17-year-old striker scored 28 goals in 25 games for [Hamburg](https://readbundesliga.com/)’s youth sides last season, before scoring seven times at the European Under-17 Championships earlier this summer.
