# Manchester United move for Chelsea target Sergi Roberto

Chelsea want to add another wing-back to their squad this summer but face competition to land Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto.

According to Spanish source [Don Balon](https://www.donbalon.com/noticia/detalle/56129/los-tres-equipos-de-champions-que-estan-dispuestos-a-pagar-la-clausula-de-sergi-roberto), both Manchester United and Monaco are looking to sign Roberto this summer but they and Chelsea will have to meet the player’s £36.2m release clause in full if they wish to sign him.

The [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-bid-36million-barcelona-10943647) claim that United have launched a bid in the region of £36m to sign the Spaniard this summer after having an initial approach turned down by the La Liga club, say [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20170807/43404840130/sergi-roberto.html).

Chelsea are monitoring his situation after seeing a move for Alex Sandro stall with Juventus adamant that the left back will not leave this summer.

Roberto can play in midfield but has made a name for himself at right back for Barcelona after Aleix Vidal got injured.

The 25-year-old is coveted by Barcelona but they are powerless if a club agrees to pay his release clause.
