# Costa fined for pre-season training no-show

Diego Costa has been fined two weeks’ wages by Chelsea after he failed to return to pre-season training last month, [according to Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/10988560/diego-costa-fined-by-chelsea-for-failing-to-return-to-pre-season-training).

The striker, who is currently in his Brazilian hometown, spoke to the Daily Mail in an [exclusive interview](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4787112/DIEGO-COSTA-INTERVIEW-Chelsea-striker-talks-Sportsmail.html) which was published last night, accusing Chelsea of treating him “like a criminal”.

In the Mail interview, Costa criticised Antonio Conte for being “distant” and said that he “doesn’t possess charisma”. He also accused Conte of putting a stop to his contract negotiations with the club, that were abruptly halted in January.

It was reported in early June that Conte had informed Costa that he was no longer in his plans at Chelsea via text message, a move which has been heavily criticised by footballing pundits and fans alike.![](https://cdn.readeverything.co/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/686825004.jpg)

Despite this, Costa claims that the club are refusing to let him leave for his preferred destination, Atlético Madrid, and has refused to rule out taking legal action against the club.

Costa has said that he is open to remaining in Brazil for the entirety of the 2017/18 campaign to see out the final year of his contract, even if Chelsea fine him for a year and don’t pay him. He said:

> If I have to I will stay in Brazil. I am open to being a year in Brazil without playing, even if Chelsea fine me for a year and don’t pay me. I’ll come back stronger. If I was in the wrong, I’d go back now and do as they say.

Costa has not been to Chelsea’s training ground at Cobham since the club won the Premier League title back in May.

Atlético Madrid are keen on resigning Costa, but are not willing to pay the near £60million asking price.
