# Diego Simeone heaps praise on Chelsea

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has heaped praise on Chelsea, describing them as the ‘most intense’ team he’s ever faced while in charge during his time in Spain, talking to the [Daily Mail](https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/2017/10/4/16417630/diego-simeone-praises-chelsea-as-the-most-intense-team-hes-ever-faced-at-atletico-madrid).

Chelsea inflicted Atletico Madrid’s first taste of defeat in the new Estadio Wanda Metropolitano stadium, after Michy Batshuayi’s 93rd minute winner helped Antonio Conte’s side overturn a 1-0 deficit at half time.

Talking at the weekend, Simeone said:

> We had never faced a team with the intensity of Chelsea. We struggled to press them effectively. We improved when Griezmann went on Bakayoko and left David Luiz free. But we were imprecise.

Simeone also spoke about the Diego Costa situation, with the forward poised to join the La Liga side in January after a deal was agreed between the two sides.

> Last year we were close. I spoke a lot with him. If he had not made the effort this summer the transfer would not have been possible. Of the players of his level he is the one for us.
