# Batshuayi: Hazard convinced me to stay

Michy Batshuayi has never been a regular in the Chelsea side under Antonio Conte and there have been many reports linking him with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge.

It wasn’t until the penultimate game of the season for Batshuayi to make his first Premier League start for the Blues, which he marked with a goal as he ended the season with four goals in the final three Premier League games, including the winner away at West Brom which clinched Chelsea’s fifth Premier League title.

Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata and chased Fernando Llorente all summer with Batshuayi looking likely to fall down the pecking order, but the Belgian stayed committed to Chelsea, largely thanks to his friend Eden Hazard [who advised him to stay at Stamford Bridge](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/chelsea/transfer-talk/news/batshuayi-hazard-advised-me-to-stay_308842.html) and work hard.

> It was friendly advice. When he said that, he thought a third striker was going to come, but in the end, there’s only two of us for one place. I want to succeed at this club and my relationship with Alvaro is very healthy.

> I don’t want to leave during the next transfer window, because we’re going to play a lot of games and I will certainly get an opportunity.

Since his £33m arrival from Marseille in 2016, Batshuayi hasn’t really earned a regular starting role but that hasn’t stopped him finding the net. In his 36 appearances, he’s bagged 14 goals in just 1,063 minutes of football, equating to a goal every 75.9 minutes – an impressive return.

Batshuayi has a knack of coming up with important goals. In addition to his title-sealing goal at the Hawthorns last season, Batshuayi also grabbed the winner away at Watford earlier in the campaign and this season he came off the bench to net an injury-time winner away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Forming a strong Belgian continent at Chelsea along with Hazard, Thibaut Courtois and Charly Musonda, Batshuayi is liked by his peers and every time he steps onto the pitch he seemingly makes a difference, and with Alvaro Morata out injured, Batshauyi’s time has come.
