# Schmeichel: Proven goalkeepers give Chelsea and United title advantage

Manchester United and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes that Chelsea and United have the advantage in the title race, as reported on the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/868468/Chelsea-Manchester-United-Man-City-Premier-League).

Schmeichel is of the opinion that Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have a significant advantage over Pep Guardiola because the men between the sticks for the Blues and Red Devils are proven.

City goalkeeper Ederson has made a brilliant start to the season and made a crucial penalty save against Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.

But Schmeichel believes that Thibaut Courtois and David De Gea could be the key to beat City to the title.

> You need your goalkeeper to save between 12-15 points to win the Premier League. We know De Gea can do that, he’s done more than that. We know with Courtois, he can do that.

> What we don’t know is with Ederson, can he do that? He’s had a really good start but we are only in October. In that respect, I think that Chelsea and Manchester United have a little bit of an edge.

De Gea earned United a point against Liverpool with a wonderful reaction save with his foot and Courtois has shown over the past few seasons that he can have a similar effect.

Ederson has shown his passing ability so far with some brilliant accurate passes out from defence, which is exactly what Guardiola wants, but when it comes to making a big save after a quiet game, will he be able to produce?
