# Chelsea and Man Utd targeting Philipp Max

Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Philipp Max of Augsburg ahead of a possible move in the January transfer window, according to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/666702/Chelsea-Philipp-Max-Man-Utd-news-gossip).

Max has been outstanding for Augsburg this Bundesliga season, appearing in every league game so far this season, scoring once.

The Blues have been eager to add a left-back to their ranks in recent months and Max is one of the names they are supposedly tracking. Manchester United are also in the market for a left-back with Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian set to leave the club.

However, both clubs have also been linked with a move for Juventus wantaway left-back Alex Sandro, who is said to prefer a switch to Stamford Bridge as opposed to Old Trafford.

It’s clear that Sandro remains both clubs’ top target when the January window opens up, but Max has emerged as a more affordable alternative. Chelsea already have one former Augsburg standout on their books in Baba Rahman but the fullback has failed to make an impact at the club.
