# Sammut training with Pompey ahead of potential summer move

Chelsea youngster Ruben Sammut has been training with Portsmouth as the League One side eye a summer move for the player.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and the [Portsmouth News](https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/football/pompey/pompey-keen-on-midfielder-1-8416306) reports that manager Kenny Jacket is interested in a deal.

> He may do (return). If we can get a friendly game we may build on it. He is a good player and he is someone at the end of the season we may be interested in. ‘As I’ve said, I can’t really speak for Chelsea or what they’re necessarily going to do. But he had a good week and we were impressed with him when he was here.

Sammut has spent time at the club’s Roko training ground last week but Jackett would like to have another look at the player before finalising a move.

The midfielder is unlikely to have his contract renewed at the club and will be allowed to look for his next move.

Sammut finds himself in a similar position to many academy players at this time of year. Isaac Christie-Davies has also found himself looking for a new club and has [recently](https://readchelsea.com/2018/03/08/isaac-christie-davies-set-play-liverpool-u23s-friday/) had a trial at Liverpool.

The Scottish U21 international has been a regular for Chelsea’s youth sides over the years but is yet to get his first taste of senior football at the Blues or elsewhere.
