# Atletico Madrid join Chelsea in the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain

Chelsea will reportedly face competition from Atletico Madrid in their pursuit of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer.

The Blues have been [heavily linked](https://readchelsea.com/2018/05/29/chelsea-linked-with-move-for-gonzalo-higuain/) with a move for the Argentine international, with his future at Serie A champions Juventus continuing to come under some scrutiny.

This has led to talk indicating that he could make a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. However, according to [reports in Italy](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/juve-pista-spagnola-per-higuain-45549), a new suitor has emerged in the race to land Higuain.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side are understood to have identified Higuain as a potential target as they make contingency plans ahead of the likely departure of Antoine Griezmann.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer and it seems plans are being put in place ahead of his exit.

Chelsea are looking to recruit a new first-choice striker and Higuain has been mentioned as a target for the Blues following Alvaro Morata’s struggles last season.
