# Chelsea eye Manolas as Rugani alternative

Chelsea are considering a move for Roma defender Kostas Manolas as an alternative to Daniele Rugani.

According to [Alfredo Pedulla](https://www.twitter.com/AlfredoPedulla), as cited on Get Italian Football News, the Roma defender is on their radar.

Manolas was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea last summer, but then looked set to join Zenit.

However, the deal fell through at the last minute and he remained with the Italian outfit.

Manolas played a key role for Roma last season and scored the memorable goal during their dramatic Champions League victory against Barcelona.

The Greek international has a €38 million release clause in his current contract and with Juventus looking to earn around €40 million from Rugani, he could be seen as a cheaper option.
