# Dries Mertens’ father confirms his son is set to stay at Napoli

Dries Mertens looks set to stay at Napoli this summer, according to his father.

Speaking to [Radio Crc, as cited on Calcio Mercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/mertens-il-padre-salvo-stravolgimenti-restera-a-napoli-per-vince-18614), Herman Mertens says the Belgian international wants to try and win the Scudetto with Napoli after narrowly missing out last season.

> Dries will everything to be there at the next World Cup, but we’ll see. for now, we have not talked a lot about Naples, Dries was concentrated on the World Cup, will now take 2-3 weeks of vacation before returning to the field, one thing at a time. Dries remain in Naples, he spoke to Ancelotti, but he will still be Napoli, his goal is the Scudetto, that would be the most beautiful party.

Reports have [suggested](https://readchelsea.com/2018/06/20/sarri-pinpoints-dries-mertens-as-first-chelsea-signing/) that Mertens, who scored 21 times last season in all competitions, was one of the many Napoli players that Sarri wanted to bring to Stamford Bridge with him.

Some [reports](https://readchelsea.com/2018/07/03/maurizio-sarri-tells-mertens-hell-sign-him-this-summer/) even claimed that the new Chelsea boss had discussed a move and promised to sign him at whatever club he ended up at this summer.

The Belgian was a key figure in Sarri’s Napoli side and it was the new Chelsea boss who played a key role in helping to transform Mertens into a central striker.

The Italian had reportedly hoped to utilise Mertens on the right of a 4-3-3 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are looking to improve in the final third and are also being [linked](https://readchelsea.com/2018/07/15/chelsea-set-to-make-higuain-offer-on-monday/) with moves for the likes of Gonzalo Higuain.
