# Thibaut Courtois transfer not ‘for wrong reasons’ according to agent

Thibaut Courtois completed his controversial yet not wholly unexpected transfer to Real Madrid last week and the 26-year-old’s agent insists that a desire to be with his two kids fuelled his decision to make the move.

Courtois has garnered little sympathy from Chelsea fans during his four-year stint, with his obvious pining for a move back to Madrid, having spent three years there while on loan at Atletico Madrid, a constant feature in a trophy-laden spell as the clubs first choice keeper.

After failing to adapt to life in London, few fans of the West London club were as upset to see him go as they would perhaps be to see his Belgium counterpart Eden Hazard make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The keeper’s agent Christophe Henrotay, who was speaking on [BBC Radio 5 Live](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45161632), is adamant that family priorities were the governing factor in Courtois’ decision.

> There is a misunderstanding in the feeling that he wants to get a move for the wrong reasons, but certainly he was pushing to go out of Chelsea because of his child. If the family was in London, it would have been totally different. … Of course, he would have stayed. If his family wants to stay in London, there is no reason to leave such a great club like Chelsea. He has won trophies. He could have won more trophies.

Whilst Henrotay sympathised with the Chelsea faithful for their reaction to losing a keeper of such quality, he made clear his ambition for such negative comments to cease as a result of the aforementioned situation Courtois found himself in.

“Thibaut is such a great goalkeeper and he did his best at Chelsea to bring titles and trophies, so it is not a great feeling to lose such a player,” he said.

Should Chelsea’s £71.6 million replacement Kepa Arrizabalaga emulate anything like the form shown by Courtois or his much-loved predecessor Petr Cech then soon enough the Chelsea fans will become more apathetic to the situation and both parties can move on with muted respect for each other.
