# Nevin suggests that Pedro could play in midfield under Sarri

Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin has suggested that Maurizio Sarri should consider utilising Pedro Rodriguez in an unfamiliar midfield role in the games to come.

The Spaniard is facing stiff competition for starting places on the flanks, with Sarri likely to favour Willian on Pedro’s favoured right side, and Eden Hazard on the opposite wing.

Nevertheless, Nevin has suggested that Pedro could yet find a place in Sarri’s starting line-up this season by operating as a third central midfielder.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante appear to be set for involved roles for Chelsea this season, but the other role in the Blues’ likely three-man midfield remains up for grabs.

Writing for [Chelsea’s official club website](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2018/8/14/pat-nevin--options-and-solutions), Nevin assessed the midfield options at Sarri’s disposal and referred to his desire to see former Barcelona star Pedro in a deeper, more central role.

> N’Golo Kante, obviously, is undroppable in any shape or form and Jorginho is the gaffer’s man, so should get an initial run in the team. That leaves Cesc Fabregas, (Ross) Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Danny Drinkwater and now Mateo Kovacic all fighting for that one spot.

> There is even the possibility that if you play Hazard and Willian wide up front, Pedro might stick his oar in for that particular berth. I mentioned this last week and have been ruminating on it ever since.

Chelsea welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening and will be desperate to make it two wins out of two in the Premier League.
