# Alonso linked with Real Madrid return

Marcos Alonso has been linked with a return to Real Madrid, [according to a report in the Guardian.](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/16/football-transfer-rumours-chelseas-marcos-alonso-back-to-real-madrid)

The Spaniard came through the ranks at Los Blancos, making a solitary appearance for the European giants in 2010 before being sold to Bolton Wanderers later that year.

With Thibaut Courtois having already made the move to the Spanish capital during the transfer window, rumours have also suggested that Eden Hazard may be set to follow his countryman to La Liga.

However, a new candidate for the switch has emerged in the form of Alonso.

The 27-year-old was a regular fixture at left wing-back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation, making 81 appearances for the Blues during the Italian’s tenure in West London.

New boss Maurizio Sarri included Alonso in the FA Community Shield, as well as the first game of the Premier League season against Huddersfield.

Should a high enough bid arrive from Madrid however, the former Napoli chief may opt to cash in on the defender.
