# Chelsea failed with last minute bid to sign Callejon

Chelsea reportedly failed with a last-minute bid to sign Jose Callejon from Napoli this summer, according to reports in Italy.

[According to Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/chelsea-milan-had-last-gasp-callejon-bids-turned-down-by-napoli-46127), the Spaniard, who was a [target for Chelsea throughout the summer](https://readchelsea.com/2018/07/21/chelsea-strongly-pursuing-callejon/), was the subject of a late enquiry from the Blues.

Callejon played a key role in Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli side, and the new Chelsea head coach was very keen on bringing the player with him to the Premier League.

Chelsea were said to have made an offer to sign the Spaniard, only to be told no straight away from the Italian side.

After losing Jorginho to the Premier League outfit, Napoli were keen to keep hold of their stars.

Several reports stated that a ‘Gentlemen’s agreement’ was put in place that would stop Sarri raiding his former side for their players.

AC Milan are also long-term admirers of the player and are also believed to have failed with a summer approach for the former Real Madrid star.
