# David Luiz’s Chelsea future “in doubt” due to contract policy

David Luiz could leave Chelsea because of the club’s decision to only give one-year extensions to players over 30.

The [*Telegraph*](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/12/09/david-luiz-keen-stay-chelsea-wants-one-year-extension-offered/) claims the 31-year-old’s future is “in doubt” due to the Blues being reluctant to change their current contract policy.

Luiz is reportedly keen to remain a Chelsea player but he is aware that a longer deal could come his way elsewhere.

Foreign clubs are expected to make bids for the Brazil international in January, with the centre-back still at an age where he can thrive for several years.

Any bids next month are likely to be regarding a summer transfer, rather than Luiz moving on straight away.

Asked about the current situation, Luiz said:

> We are still talking, let’s see. Let’s see what the future brings.

The Brazilian was excellent in Saturday’s thrilling 2-0 win over champions Manchester City.

His precise header rounded off the scoring and he outlined why Chelsea keeping hold of him is important.
