# Cagliari president rules out January Barella sale

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has ruled out any possibility of in-demand midfielder Nicolo Barella joining Chelsea in January.

[Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, as cited on Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/following-claims-chelsea-wanting-midfielder-deal-done-xmas-club-president-word/), Guilini denied that the Italian would be allowed to leave the club during the January transfer window.

> It’s a certainty he won’t leave in January, and I think it’s fair to make the most of him as long as he is with us.

Barella has been heavily linked with moves to London in recent days, with [reports suggesting that both](https://readchelsea.com/2018/12/12/sarri-wants-chelsea-to-beat-liverpool-to-barella-deal/) Gianfranco Zola and Maurizio Sarri have encouraged the Chelsea board to complete a deal for the player.

The Italian is a highly-rated young midfielder, who has previously been linked with moves to Liverpool and Spurs after catching the eye in Serie A.

A host of Italy’s top clubs are also believed to be interested in signing the player, but any potential suitors look like they may need to wait until next summer to complete a deal.
