# Chelsea make enquiry for £50m-rated Lewis Dunk

Chelsea are thought to have made an enquiry to Brighton over a possible move for central defender Lewis Dunk.

That’s according to [The Times](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/tottenham-hotspur-set-to-sign-benficas-gedson-fernandes-626b885p2?wgu=270525_54264_15789007319074_728c3d8230&wgexpiry=1586676731&utm_source=planit&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_content=22278), cited by [The Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/12/brighton-lewis-dunk-chelsea-transfer-12044430/), who claim that the Blues have approached the Seagulls regarding a deal for the 28-year-old.

The [report](https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/12/brighton-lewis-dunk-chelsea-transfer-12044430/) claims that Brighton would be open to selling the England international, even midway through the season, but only if their £50 million valuation was met.

Dunk has become a cult hero on the south coast, making over 270 appearances for the Seagulls since 2009, via [Soccerbase.com](https://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=54394).

He’s played a key role in the club’s rise from League One to the Premier League and became the first Brighton player in 36 years to play for England, [making his debut in the 3-0 win over USA](https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/galleries/1271807/dunks-england-debut-in-pictures) last year.

From our point of view, we can why the Blues are reportedly looking at a potential move for Dunk.

He appears to us, to be in his prime at the age of 28 and now [has 94 Premier League appearances to his name](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86441/History/Lewis-Dunk).

Statistically, he’s also outperformed Chelsea regulars Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma in several aspects this season.

Premier League data collected by [Whoscored.com](https://www.whoscored.com/) show that [Dunk](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/86441/Show/Lewis-Dunk) has averaged more blocks per game and scored more goals than both [Tomori](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/317507/Show/Fikayo-Tomori) and [Zouma](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106086/Show/Kurt-Zouma).

He’s also made more clearances than Tomori, while completing more successful tackles than Zouma.

Dunk has only missed two of the 22 league fixtures this season, however, a £50 million move in our eyes, seems a hefty price.

Although he has better stats than Tomori and Zouma in several areas, we’re unsure whether or not Frank Lampard should splash the cash on the Brighton man.
