# Onana sets sights on summer move to Chelsea

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana is eyeing a summer departure from the Eredivisie champions, with the Premier League thought to be his preferred destination.

According to the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7975131/Chelsea-Tottenham-ready-fight-50m-rated-Ajax-goalkeeper-Andre-Onana.html), Onana is ready to leave Amsterdam and although he would prefer to join Chelsea, a move to Tottenham Hotspur is also of interest.

They claim Ajax value the 23-year-old stopper between £40 million and £50 million, with Barcelona already showing interest in his services.

[Onana switched Barcelona’s academy for Ajax in 2015](https://english.ajax.nl/streams/ajax-now/ajax-signs-andre-onana-1.htm) and has since made [171 appearances for the first team and earnt 15 caps for Cameroon](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-onana/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/234509).

At £50m, it’s lower than the [£71 million Chelsea paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45120514), however, it’s evident [Frank Lampard needs, and wants to prioritise other areas of his squad](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7953889/Frank-Lampard-worried-lack-signings-cost-Chelsea-four-spot.html).

Kepa is enduring a poor season, holding the unwanted record of the [lowest save percentage in the Premier League](https://fbref.com/en/comps/9/keepers/Premier-League-Stats); as the [world’s most expensive goalkeeper](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45120514), there is reason to be concerned.

Aged 25, he’s still got plenty of room to improve and grow into a better no. 1 though and I think he needs more of a chance to prove his worth in London.

Onana would bring promise and ready-made quality with [72 clean sheets](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-onana/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/234509) in an Ajax shirt, but I strongly believe £50m would go a long way to improving the squad more effectively in [other areas](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1239445/Chelsea-transfer-news-Frank-lampard-150m-budget-summer-window).
