# Mourinho looks to raid Chelsea targets in defence revamp

Jose Mourinho has included AFC Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell in his plans for a defensive revamp at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

According to [Express Sport](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1240483/Tottenham-news-Jose-Mourinho-120m-summer-transfer-revolution-EXCLUSIVE-latest), Mourinho is eyeing a £120million defensive spending spree and wants Tottenham to target Ake, whilst Chilwell is also being monitored.

Across London, Chelsea too have been heavily linked with both [Ake](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1241098/Chelsea-pole-position-Nathan-Ake-transfer) and [Chilwell](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/02/11/chelsea-monitoring-ajax-midfielder-hakim-ziyech-frank-lampard/) in recent weeks, ahead of Frank Lampard’s first active summer transfer window as manager.

Lampard could have up to £150 million to overhaul his squad, with the two aforementioned players in his sights, [according to previous reports](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1239445/Chelsea-transfer-news-Frank-lampard-150m-budget-summer-window).

### READ CHELSEA VERDICT

I think it’s obvious to say both players could improve Chelsea’s defensive options, with Ake [averaging 4.6 clearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/122945/Show/Nathan-Ak%C3%A9) per game in the Premier League this season and Chilwell [a regular](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299272/Show/Ben-Chilwell) in Leicester’s [thriving](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) side.

If there is competition for both though, I think Lampard should focus on the pursuit of the latter because of his current options at left-back.

With Emerson [not being able to cement his place](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson/leistungsdaten/spieler/181778) in the team and Marcos Alonso [turning 30 this year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcos-alonso/profil/spieler/112515), Chilwell could provide a top-class long-term option. Boasting [11 England caps since his debut in September 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-chilwell/profil/spieler/316125), the 23-year-old is [expected](https://www.squawka.com/en/features/england-euro-2020-squad-predictions-strengths-weaknesses) to start for the Three Lions at Euro 2020 and could have the platform to make that position his own for years to come.
