# Chalobah set for exit talks ahead of mooted January transfer

**‘In the coming weeks’ Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah will become the subject of interest for Serie A side Roma.**

Chalobah played [30 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trevoh-chalobah/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346314/plus/0?saison=&verein=631&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) for the Blues last season and despite being limited to just one appearance so far this term, Chelsea decided against loaning out the 23-year-old this summer.

Both [Inter Milan and AC Milan](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/it/chalobah-milan-inter-calciomercato-news-27-agosto-2022) showed interest while Tottenham are thought to have [tabled](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-fc-transfer-news-fofana-aubameyang-gordon-b1021121.html?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1661502792) an offer with the view for a temporary switch to north London.

However, the promising defender, dubbed a ‘[monster](https://twitter.com/ftalentscout/status/1444332410930438151?s=21&t=rC2Gox2773jYv3-OrOKs1A)’ by Football Talent scout Jacek Kulig, could yet depart Stamford Bridge this season.

According to Italian journalist [Rudy Galetti](https://twitter.com/RudyGaletti/status/1570391120084885514?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1570391120084885514%7Ctwgr%5E6a2f4e2f8c88ebbd0af66abd14b7cbb1a96f8a46%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.embedly.com%2Fwidgets%2Fmedia.html%3Ftype%3Dtext2Fhtmlkey%3D69687b5ff59a4f0e88a33541f4f0dc2aschema%3Dtwitterurl%3Dhttps3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2Frudygaletti%2Fstatus%2F1570391120084885514image%3Dhttps3A%2F%2Fabs.twimg.com%2Ferrors%2Flogo46x38.png), Roma are now expected to initiate contact with Chalobah’s representatives ‘in the coming weeks’ to discuss a potential move in the winter transfer window.

Japhet Tanganga and Victor Lindelof are also thought to be on the Jose Mourinho-led side’s radar but Chelsea’s academy graduate does seem like a very viable option.

With the significant investment in [Wesley Fofana](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12683698/wesley-fofana-chelsea-complete-signing-of-leicesters-french-defender-in-75m-deal) and [Kalidou Koulibaly](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12651214/kalidou-koulibaly-chelsea-complete-deal-for-napoli-centre-back) this summer and the intention to revisit a deal for [Josko Gvardiol](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1569275991725318144) next year, it appears that Chalobah’s game time at the Blues could become severely restricted.

However, a move to Italy could see his career flourish just like former clubmate Fikayo Tomori.

The ex-Chelsea defender went on to become a Serie A winner with AC Milan and has been named in the [latest England squad](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12016/12698028/ivan-toney-named-in-england-squad-for-first-time-for-nations-league-games-against-italy-and-germany), with a place at the World Cup looking likely.

Chalobah, a [three-cap England U21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trevoh-chalobah/nationalmannschaft/spieler/346314/verein_id/9565) himself, may look to continue his progression by following a similar path and it will be interesting to see how this situation develops.
