# Chelsea want to sign Premier League striker who will make them title contenders

Joao Pedro has done a fantastic job since joining Chelsea. He has scored 23 goals and provided nine assists for the Blues so far. An excellent return, especially in what has been a poor season for the Blues in front of goal. That being said, the club do need more goalscorers.

Just look at the run they have been on lately. When was the last time they scored more than one goal in a game against top-level opposition? In fact, they have drawn blanks more often than they have scored in the past two months. This cannot continue on under [Xabi Alonso](https://readchelsea.com/2026/05/17/power-xabi-alonso-chelsea-manager/) next season. Hopefully, it won’t.

Chelsea do not have a lack of options up top. Obviously, Pedro is the standout. But other than him, the club also have Liam Delap and Marc Guiu. Nicolas Jackson will return once his loan spell at Bayern Munich ends. Emmanuel Emegha and Dastan Satpaev have already been signed as well.

Despite that, they continue to be linked with strikers. According to [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/chelsea/blues-get-serious-near-90m-prem-striker-igor-thiago-xabi-alonso-helm), Igor Thiago is among the leading targets for Chelsea. The Blues view him as a striker capable of elevating the team into genuine title contenders.

## Chelsea regard Igor Thiago very highly

It looks like Chelsea view Thiago as a profile they currently lack. He is a physical presence, who has good movement and has the instincts of a finisher in the box.

The report goes on to add that there are internal doubts about players like Delap, Jackson and Guiu and their ability to lead the line for a team with ambitions of winning the Premier League and making deep Champions League runs.

To be honest, the fans have the same doubts as well. So, Chelsea are asking the right questions. Are they finding the right solutions though?

## Would Thiago be the right signing?

With 22 Premier League goals to his name this season, Thiago has well and truly made a name for himself this season. But then, he has scored eight penalties. Pedro has actually outscored him if you take them out, as he does not take spot-kicks for Chelsea.

But the thing is, Thiago’s numbers are off the charts in other aspects as well. When it comes to forwards, he is the best in the league in terms of defensive contributions, interceptions, recoveries, duels won, tackles, and clearances. He is also in the 90th percentile or higher for successful dribbles, successful dribble percentage, aerial duels won, touches, touches in the opposition box, successful passes, chances created, big chances created, accurate crosses and expected assists.

There is not much that Thiago has not done. And he is not a one-season wonder either. In the past, he has scored 20 goals or more in a season for Ludogorets and Club Brugge as well.

Of course, Alonso is set to have a say on transfer signings. It remains to be seen what he thinks about Thiago. If the club do end up bringing him, one would assume that the Spaniard likes the idea as well.
