# Chelsea Women 1-0 Arsenal: Thompson seals London derby win

Chelsea Women moved within two points of the Women’s Super League summit after Alyssa Thompson secured a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

Thompson struck in the 39th minute to settle the London derby and continue Chelsea’s unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Arsenal had hit the woodwork twice during a strong opening period, but Chelsea gradually grew into the contest before finding the breakthrough.

According to [Chelsea’s official match report](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/match-report-chelsea-1-0-arsenal-wsl-stamford-bridge), Wieke Kaptein helped Chelsea regain possession before Ellie Carpenter and Melvine Malard combined in the build-up.

Keira Walsh’s effort was parried by Anneke Borbe and Thompson reacted to fire home from close range.

## Alyssa Thompson delivers against Arsenal

The winner came just a day after Sonia Bompastor [identified Thompson as a key Chelsea weapon against Arsenal](https://readchelsea.com/2026/09/26/alyssa-thompson-chelsea-women-arsenal-weapon/).

Chelsea then defended their advantage after the interval, with Hannah Hampton helping Bompastor’s side preserve the clean sheet.

The victory also delivers the outcome discussed in our [pre-match WSL table permutations](https://readchelsea.com/2026/09/27/chelsea-women-arsenal-wsl-table-title-race/): Chelsea are now two points behind leaders Manchester City.

It is another Stamford Bridge victory over Arsenal after Chelsea also won the [most recent Champions League meeting between the sides](https://readchelsea.com/2026/09/26/chelsea-women-vs-arsenal-head-to-head/).

Chelsea now turn their attention to Wednesday’s Champions League trip to OL Lyonnes.
