Chelsea are reportedly willing to meet the release clause of Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.

The versatile Spaniard will be free to talk to other clubs if his €40m buyout clause is activated this summer, and Diario Sport journalist José Luis Carazo believes that Chelsea are willing to do exactly that.

Roberto played last season at right-back in large parts, with Luis Enrique underwhelming in his final campaign at the Nou Camp.

However, Roberto gave a considerably good account of himself and this appears to have attracted Chelsea’s interest.

While the Blues appear to hold a genuine admiration for the Spanish midfielder, it’s been suggested that Roberto himself is not particularly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Roberto has finally burst onto the scene on a consistent basis for Barca and is an important member of their squad. However, with the Catalan giants having signed Nelson Semedo from Benfica this summer, he is likely to only be used as a backup under Ernesto Valverde.
