Arsenal (A) – Four Findings

Arsenal (A) – Four Findings

Arsenal played host to league leaders Chelsea on Sunday evening. Arsene Wenger has failed to beat Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, at every attempt. A win here would have let Chelsea travel to Leicester knowing a win would be enough to clinch their Champions status. However, that didn’t happen but Chelsea are now only 6 points away, without any interference. 0-0 on the night was probably the right result. Here’s my Four Findings from the game:

John Terry still has it –

John Terry put in yet another Captain performance in this game, being the rock at the back for Chelsea. Constant headers and key decisions got Chelsea the ball back, on many occasions. You know what he means to Chelsea, and vice versa. When you need someone who will put their body on the line, Terry is there. When you need someone to get up in the air and clear that ball, Terry is there. Tonight, he had to battle with Giroud in the air, and didn’t seem troubled. He keeps the rest of his back 4 fully concentrated and organised, nothing slips. When going up against Giroud there are two options. Battle with him in the air, or wait for the 2nd ball. Terry went for the dual in the air, and seemed to be dealing with it when needed. If Giroud was battling with Cahill, Terry would be waiting for the drop down. He’s your complete defender, and one that would walk into any Premier League side.

Squad depth is an issue –

With so many injuries, you need squad balance. When Diego Costa isn’t fir for Chelsea, they look like they are bare up top. Same happened last season with the amount of times we had to switch Schurrle to a striker, if Torres wasn’t playing. Now, I don’t want to criticise the legend. However, with age, Drogba seems to have gone off the boil. He struggles at times to keep the ball up and also gets shrugged off the ball. With the football Mourinho plays, Remy isn’t a Chelsea striker. We play with a physical striker who can hold that ball up and keep defenders off the backs of our other attackers. In the summer, we could do with an addition or two in the attacking half. Drogba will be playing even less next season, so we need someone who can change a game.

Picking up points is a Mourinho game –

It’s got to that stage where going into a big game with a rival, you know Mourinho will want the game as closed as possible. He doesn’t care how the result has been won, he wants it. Whether that means sitting 11 players behind the ball or going out on the front foot, it doesn’t matter. When it comes to the big games, Mourinho goes for the defensive counter approach, which I can understand. However – sometimes it is nice to see some energy in our football. Let our Hazard attack frightened defenders. Everyone would like to see some Chelsea football here and there. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t criticise Mourinho, because he brings success. However, some would like to see some energy in our wins, like the Swansea away game.

6 more points –

I don’t think I need to discuss with my fellow Chelsea lovers how well we have played this season. Up and down the pitch, immense. Our signings in the summer window showed our intent for this season. We needed that spine, and so we went and got it. Throughout the season, we have shown we deserve to be champions are now we are only two more wins away, and could win it at Stamford Bridge. We made very little mistakes. We go to Leicester, show them we are top of the league and beat them. We go and win the league in-front of our fans. Solid season, solid performances. Two more wins.
