Saturday got off to a great start, as the team officially announced the signing of N’Golo Kante. It’s a shame that Saturday afternoon’s performance in Austria put a slight damper on the day.
The Blues unofficially opened the Antonio Conte era with a 2-0 loss to Rapid Vienna in their beautiful new stadium, the Allianz Stadion. Goals came in the seventh minute by Joelinton and in the 82nd minute by Tomi.
It’s easy to jump to conclusions after seeing the result, but it is vital to note the players at Conte’s disposal at the moment – seeing as none of the Euro or Copa America players that reached the group stage have joined up with the rest of the squad. It’s also vital to note that this is just pre-season.
