A look ahead to Watford (A)

A look ahead to Watford (A)

After a thrilling 2-1 win over West Ham, Antonio Conte’s side will now travel up to Vicarage Road to play Watford in another hotly-contested London derby.

Diego Costa’s late goal handed Chelsea all three points in Conte’s inaugural Premier League game. Belgian winger Eden Hazard – who scored from the penalty spot, looked to be back to his best this Monday, with his bursts of pace and close control causing Michail Antonio a headache throughout the game.

Both Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic looked excellent – despite having had poor pre-seasons, which simultaneously put both their futures in jeopardy. Cesc Fabregas’ future is not as clear, however, after being left on the bench for the game against West Ham.

French midfielder N’Golo Kante made his competitive debut for Chelsea against the Hammers and looked as imperious as ever in a withdrawn defensive role.

Watford are under new management after the impromptu departure of Quique Sánchez Flores, with Walter Mazzarri coming in as his replacement. And their campaign started off with a 1-1 draw against fellow newly managed club Southampton. Despite a creditable draw against the Saints, Watford will be without the experienced midfield presence of Ben Watson – who was sent off for hauling back Shane Long just over 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Chelsea will go into the game as favourites, with William Hill Sports currently pricing the Blues at a very tempting 3/4 to get the win.

Chelsea have no fresh injury concerns or suspensions coming into the game, whilst Watford will be without new signings Isaac Success and Brice Dja Djedje – as well as the aforementioned Watson.
