Chelsea suffered a second successive Premier League loss – as Chelsea’s defence was exposed to within an inch of their lives by Arsenal, who ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.
Another infamous Gary Cahill mistake handed Arsenal the lead when his clumsy back-pass was cut out by Alexis Sanchez – who went on to chip the ball over the advancing Thibaut Courtois. Arsenal continued to control the game – continuously exploiting the characteristically poor marking of Nemanja Matic and Branislav Ivanovic’s lack of pace.
So when Theo Walcott finished off a sweeping Arsenal move it came as no surprise to the furious away support – especially once replays showed that it was indeed Ivanovic who had lost his man.
Arsenal compiled Chelsea’s misery when Mesut Ozil capitalised on Ivanovic once again being out of position – to volley the ball into the net, with the bounce of the ball looping it over Courtois.
The second-half didn’t see a change in impetus for Chelsea – as they continued to toil in the face of excessive Arsenal possession. As a result of the game slowly petering out – with Petr Cech only having to deny Michy Batshuayi late on.
