West Ham vs Chelsea – EFL Cup Match preview

Having just humbled Manchester United 4-0, Chelsea now turn their attentions towards a fiery London derby against West Ham United, in the first game the Blues will play at the London Stadium.

Several fringe players will be hoping to make a big impact on Wednesday night – with Michy Batshuayi particularly eager to impress, following limited opportunities despite a prolific start to his Chelsea career.

Whilst youngsters Nathaniel Chalobah, who has been handed a few chances over the past couple of weeks, Ruben Loftus-cheek and right-back Ola Aina – who hasn’t benefited from Antonio Conte’s switch to a three at the back formation thus far, could all be in with a chance of starting against Slaven Bilic’s side.

West Ham got back to winning ways on Saturday when Winston Reid hit a debatable injury-time winner against relegation rivals Sunderland. Although their recent form hasn’t given the Hammers much to cheer about – who currently sit 15th in the table, having already lost five of their nine Premier League games this season.

West Ham are still missing a host of long-term absentees – with Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew, Diafra Sakho, Sam Byram, Gokhan Tore and Arthur Masuaku all missing for a prolonged period of time. West Ham will, however, hope that goalkeeper Darren Randolph will be back in time for the tie with Chelsea.

Chelsea, on the other hand, will be without Cesc Fabregas, Branislav Ivanovic and Kurt Zouma – who are all still a few weeks away from a return to action.
