Chelsea 1-0 Manchester United: What we learned

On to the next one.

Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals on Monday night with a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. The Blues will play Tottenham on the weekend of April 22-23. Arsenal and Manchester City meet in the other semi-final.

Antonio Conte’s Blues lined up in the usual 3-4-3 with Thibaut Courtois in goal, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill in the back three, Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso at wing-backs, N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic in the midfield, Eden Hazard and Willian – with a fresh new hairstyle – at the inside forward spots and, of course, Diego Costa up front.

It was speculated before the match that United would come to the Bridge without a recognised striker, but Marcus Rashford was fit to play. Despite Rashford proving to be a danger to Cahill, the match flipped on its head in the 35th minute when Ander Herrera was sent off for a second reckless challenge that resulted in a sending off.

Kante scored the lone goal in the 51st minute.

Let’s get to it – here’s what we learned from the match.

matchday.
