West Brom 0-1 Chelsea: Player ratings

Chelsea finally secured the Premier League title in dramatic fashion courtesy of a late Michy Batshuayi goal away at West Brom.

Having beaten Middlesbrough 3-0 on Monday night, Chelsea needed just a win against West Brom to pick up their fifth Premier League title.

In a cagey first half, it looked unlikely that the Blues were gonna break the deadlock. Cesc Fabregas and Pedro came closest to scoring in the first half, but both shots whistled past Ben Foster’s far post.

In the second half, Chelsea picked up the pace and were unlucky to see Victor Moses’s shot saved by Foster, whilst Fabregas once again came close with a long-range strike. Former Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli nearly snatched the title away from Chelsea, albeit for a few days, but he skewed his shot wide of the target.

Gary Cahill’s sliced shot then fell invitingly to Cesar Azpilcueta who cut the ball back to the waiting Batshuayi, with the Belgian ready to pounce and in a split second repay the £32 million Antonio Conte invested in him last summer.

The goal came just eight minutes from time and sent Conte wheeling away down the touchline to celebrate with the Chelsea bench. The destination of the title has finally been settled, capping off the perfect end to an illustrious career at Chelsea for captain John Terry – who said he will allow Cahill to lift the trophy alongside him at home to Sunderland on the 21 May.
