A dramatic 4-3 win over Watford ensured that Chelsea are still in line to pick up a Premier League record 30 league wins in a season, should they triumph over already relegated Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Cesc Fabregas once again made a telling contribution from the bench as he came on to score the winning goal against a stubborn Watford side – who had come from 3-1 down to draw level for the second time in the game, firing in from outside the area.
John Terry also got on the scoresheet in what could be his final start in a Chelsea shirt, he has now scored in 17 consecutive Premier League seasons but was also at fault for Etienne Capoue’s equalising goal just seconds after he gave the Blues the lead.
Michy Batshuayi scored his third Premier League goal of the season, despite starting his first game on Monday night against Watford, whilst Cesar Azpilicueta got on the score sheet in the Premier League for the first time this season.
Sunderland helped Swansea secure safety on Saturday, as the Black Cats went out with a whimper in their final home game, goals from Fernando Llorente and Kyle Naughton helping to send Hull City down with Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
Chelsea have a fully fit squad to pick from, whilst Sunderland, on the other hand, have a host of injury worries, with Jan Kirchoff, Duncan Watmore and Paddy McNair all out.
