Chelsea team news vs Liverpool: Double boost confirmed

Share

Chelsea will be looking to successfully pull off one of the toughest tasks in football, going away to Anfield and beating Liverpool, today. Of course, Arne Slot’s side have had their ups and downs this season, but things have been so much worse for the Blues in recent months. They go into this game on a six-game losing streak and it took a bicycle kick from Joao Pedro to end their goalless run.

There is some good news for Chelsea ahead of the game against Liverpool though. It looks like two of their most important players could be involved. Perhaps they could even start based on the tone of the message.

Of course, we are talking about Reece James and Levi Colwill. The former is returning from a hamstring issue he picked up in March. On the other hand, the latter has played just one game for the Blues so far in this campaign, having suffered an ACL injury in pre-season. There is a positive update surrounding both heading into the Liverpool game.

Double boost for Blues ahead of Liverpool game

According to football.london, interim manager Calum McFarlane said about James and Colwill:

We’ve got a few lads returning, so Levi’s trained another full week again, Reece [James] as well, so yeah, looking promising.

When asked how close the duo were to starting, McFarlane said:

Yeah, we’ve still got another session, they both trained fully today, so we’re hopeful, we’re hopeful.

That is fantastic news if you are Chelsea. Those two definitely make the team better when they are at the top of their game. That probably won’t be the case right now. But giving them some more time out on the pitch before the FA Cup final against Manchester City might be vital.

Chelsea also handed triple blow

Of course, it is not positive for Chelsea. It never is. While James and Colwill are expected to be involved, it looks like three of their players might not play. Robert Sanchez is confirmed to be out after the head injury he suffered against Nottingham Forest.

At the same time, Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto are unlikely to be involved due to the knocks they picked up in training. Those two had missed the game against Nottingham Forest as well.

McFarlane said regarding the status of the trio leading up to the game against Liverpool:

Neto and Garnacho are carrying knocks, so it’s looking unlikely that they’re going to be available. Rob is also not going to be available after the injury that he sustained.

Also, Jesse Derry won’t play again this season, following his own head injury against Nottingham Forest. So, that leaves Chelsea with very little to no depth on the wing. Estevao and Jamie Gittens are not available either. It will be very interesting to see how McFarlane lines them up at Anfield.
