The match carries considerable importance for Chelsea after they missed out on automatic qualification for the Champions League league phase.

ReadChelsea reported following Monday’s draw that progression would secure Chelsea a place among Europe’s leading clubs and guarantee a €505,000 league-phase starting payment.

Real Sociedad finished third in Liga F last season and will host the return leg in Spain on 2 September.

Chelsea therefore have the opportunity to establish an advantage on home soil before travelling to San Sebastian, with their Champions League campaign beginning before the new WSL season gets underway.
