With another Championship season all but done and dusted for another year, we’re going to profile at five players that Chelsea could potentially poach from England’s second division to improve their squad in the next few years.
It is worth noting some of these players may well not be Championship players for very long, given either their talent or their position in the table. Some of the players included have already managed to attract plenty of interest from top Premier League clubs.
Cherry picking players from the Championship is something Chelsea have done in the past. The club signed Michael Hector from Reading in the summer and he has since returned to the club after his loan deal expired.
As well as this, the club have used the league in the past to send players out on loan. The likes of Nathaniel Chalobah, Patrick Bamford, and Lucas Piazon are just some that have spent time on loan in the Championship.
The Blues will want to keep an eye on these players, who all look destined for big things in their respective careers.
Moussa Dembele - Fulham
A clear talent out of all these players. Despite playing in a very poor Fulham side, he is being linked with moves all over Europe.
He was a reported target for Tottenham and looked close to joining them but has now been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
He was invited to the stadium as a guest of the club against Manchester City as they prepare a deal to bring the young Frenchman to Chelsea.
Ademola Lookman - Charlton
Lookman has caught the eye of top Premier League clubs this season after a fantastic emergence at Charlton, where they haven’t had much to cheer about all season.
The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are all thought to be watching Lookman closely and he looks like he will be one for the future.
With Charlton relegated to League One, this may be the best time to get Lookman on the cheap.
Andrew Robertson - Hull
A more defensive option, the young defender has impressed for Hull City after joining from Dundee United last season.
He has been tipped for big things with Premier League clubs watching his development under Steve Bruce.
A left-back that loves to get forward could be something Chelsea need in the future. With a bit more experience under his belt, he could become a great Premier League defender.
Lewis Cook - Leeds
Lewis Cook has enjoyed a great season in the middle of Leeds’ midfield, he has caught the eye of several Premier League teams along the way.
Cook looks like a real talent and with teams as big as Manchester United sniffing around, he could be one for the Blues to keep an eye on!
Zach Clough - Bolton
Another player that has a had a great season in a poor side in the Championship. Bolton’s Zach Clough looks destined for bigger and better things after a great season.
Despite Bolton’s relegation, Clough will be hoping to seal a move elsewhere. A big Premier League club could come calling to secure the youngster’s signature.
