Defending Romelu Lukaku’s price tag

Ever since Romelu Lukaku left Stamford Bridge in 2012, there have always been rumours of his return. Everton have reportedly slapped a £75million price tag on the former Blue, and Chelsea have already had a £57 million bid rejected from the Merseyside club.

The Belgian has been an extremely polarising figure among the Chelsea fanbase, and for a multitude of “reasons.” “He’s got a terrible attitude.” “He has a massive ego.” “He forced his way out two years ago instead of staying and fighting for his spot.” Yadda yadda yadda.

I’ve yet to see many Chelsea fans defend Lukaku or even claim that he’s worth anywhere near what Everton have valued the striker at. And maybe he really isn’t worth anywhere near £75million. To be fair, for the most part, I haven’t been a fan of securing Lukaku’s signature at the price being asked to pay. But then I took my blue-tinted sunglasses off and gave it a second thought.
