Hull City 0-2 Chelsea: What we learnt

Chelsea bounced back from last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at the Emirates, trouncing Hull City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the KCOM Stadium. Before Sunday’s fixtures, the win puts Chelsea in sixth place with 13 points, with the Gunners in fifth place on just as many points.

Antonio Conte lined up in a three-at-the-back formation with Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill flanking David Luiz in the back and in front of Thibaut Courtois. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso lined up at wingbacks with N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Willian in central midfield. Eden Hazard roamed around centrally underneath Diego Costa.

The Blues got off to a slow start before starting to settle in Conte’s back-three formation around the mid-way point in the first half. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening half.

The second half was utter dominance by the Blues, with Willian and Costa scoring two very similar goals six minutes apart.

Willian got Chelsea on the board in the 61st minute on a right-footed curler to the far post to Hull goalkeeper David Marshall’s left. Costa doubled Chelsea’s lead on a similar shot from a similar spot in the 67th minutes.

Here’s what we learnt from yesterday’s match.
