Gary Cahill has recently said that he may be wearing the captain’s armband at Chelsea, but there’s no replacing John Terry.
Which in one sense, is absolutely correct. This summer, however, it looks increasingly likely that Chelsea will have a huge problem on their hands, as they’ll have to replace Terry.
The defender appears to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer, with no talk of a new deal from Antonio Conte.
The Italian head coach has slowly phased the club captain out of the picture without affecting the team performances this season. It’s down to that, and the success of Conte’s 3-4-3, that the departure may not be as bad as once feared.
Never the less, the club will need to strengthen at the back during the summer to help ease the loss of their ever-present skipper as well as dealing with the added fixtures that Champions League football will bring, so we’ve picked a number of players they could look to sign.
